Funen is an idyllic island in the middle of Denmark and is between Jutland and Zealand. Discover here romantic castles and mansions framed in beautiful nature.

Funen is the perfect place to visit if you want to experience the most beautiful of Denmark, with its idyllic manor houses, cosy villages, and fairytale castles.

This fairytale island is the birthplace of the world-renown author Hans Christian Andersen. You can still today see the house where he was born, and in the city, you also find an interesting museum about his life.

The island of Funen is in the centre of Denmark, connected to Zealand and Jutland by two bridges, the Little Belt Bridge and the Great Belt Bridge. The central city on the island is Odense.

Odense has many exciting attractions as Odense Castle which is the birthplace of the famous author Hans Christian Andersen.

It is possible to follow in the "footsteps" of Hans Christian Andersen all over Funen and visit some of the castles where he has written some of his fairy tales.

Discover the Beautiful old castles

The Island of Funen, with many historic buildings and traditions, has many beautiful castles and parks like Nyborg Castle, Egeskov Castle,  Holckenhavn Castle and Lykkesholm Castle, to mention some. Especially Egeskov Castle, with a car museum and a family amusement park, is recommended.

Funen offers all kinds of fun and events all year round. In the open-air museum Den Fynske Landsby (Funen Village), you can try out and experience the way of living when Hans Christian Andersen lived. 

Odense Zoois a real family highlight and is highly respected for its animal collection. Funen offers many other attractions for families for kids. 

In the summer, adventures like sailing, kayaking, and especially bicycling are very popular in Funen, where several beautiful biking routes exist. Funen is also a paradise for anglers and yachtsmen.

Funen is only 2 hour drive from Copenhagen

You can easily reach Funen from Copenhagen or other places in Denmark by car or train. Funen is linked to Zealand by the Store Bælt bridge and the Lille Bælt bridge to Jutland, and E20 runs across Funen.

You can also go to Odense from Copenhagen every hour by train.
