The Stockholm Archipelago

Visit the Stockholm Archipelago, one of the highlights of Stockholm.

More than 30000 islands

The Stockholm archipelago is very popular for summertime holidays, but it is beautiful and can be visited all year round.  The archipelago is a cluster of 30,000 islands, skerries and rocks spreading 80 km east from the city into the Baltic Sea.

Some are large inhabited islands famed for swinging summer parties; others are little more than rocky outposts or grassy knolls visited by the odd seal or kayaker. You can cook your fish at BBQ stations at camping sites or visit some famed Swedish restaurants on Fjäderholmarna, Grinda and Värmdö.

Boat tours

By the locals, the archipelago is called "Skärgården". It is most popular to enjoy the archipelago by ferry. Ferry companies like Cinderella or Waxholmsbolaget offer trips of any kind. If you want some action, take a RIB boat trip. Also, small taxi boats sail between the islands.

Activities in Stockholm Archipelago

Adventures of all kinds are here by the Stockholm Archipelago.  By boat, hike, fish, sea kayak, bike and swim and even ice yacht. Look for wild berries in August and mushrooms in August and September.
