The ICEHOTEL has become world-famous as one of the most spectacular hotels. Guests here have to book a room at least one year in advance to be sure to get one.
It all began in 1989. In Jukkasjärvi was arranged a sculpture art course. A snow house was built as the art course venue.
Because a shortage of accommodation in connection with the course, they placed them in the snow house with the frozen art. They gave them sleeping bags, survivalist advice, tips on toilet trip management on the ice, and a sauna in the morning to burn off the frostbite. Suddenly an ICEHOTEL was born.
Make sure to reserve your stay well in advance as the ICEHOTEL attracts visitors from all over the world.
Today, every winter ice is cut from the frozen Torne River in Jukkasjärvi. Builders and artists start working with great sized of ice blocks. After months of cutting and forming, you get one ICEHOTEL and an ICEBAR.
Every spring the ICEHOTEL season ends, and the ICEHOTEL melts. But that is the joy of the ICEHOTEL. You get a new hotel and art installation every year.

The great outdoor adventures like Northern Light hunting tours, snowmobile events, dog sledging tours, combined with an unforgettable stay in an ICEHOTEL, tells all about why there is such a huge demand on rooms here. Even a wedding at the ICEHOTEL in an ICE CHAPEL is possible here.
