Languages in Greenland

The official language in Greenland is called “Kalaallisut”. It belongs to the Inuit-Aleut family of languages spoken by some 80,000 people in Greenland, Canada and Alaska.

Related to Greenland history, Danish was the official language until 2009, and the primary schools in Greenland still teach Danish.

The young generation in Greenland is more educated and speaks good English. You will also find services in French and German in the tourist information.
